NOTE: The Battle of Seneffe took place as part of the Dutch War on August 11, 1674 and pitted the French army commanded by Prince Louis II de Bourbon-Condé against the Austro-Hispano-Dutch army led by Guillaume d' Orange.
(...) The French Guards regiment attacks the village of Fay from the right. In this fierce combat which continued at night in the light of the moon, the Guards performed prodigies of valor, and led by Condé himself, they finally took this village, the crux of the position, took three cannons there and laid down on the very scene of carnage. The enemies lost one hundred and seven flags or standards at Seneffe, a large part of which remained in the hands of the French Guards, as proof of their courage. The regiment had also paid dearly for the land it had conquered. He had 41 officers and 507 low officers and soldiers put out of action.
Both sides claim victory, but given the heavy losses, it is difficult to determine a winner. (...)
