OFFICER'S SHAKO OF THE 22nd INFANTRY LEGION, DORDOGNE DEPARTMENT, model 1818, Restoration period.
Body made of cardboard covered with taupe velvet, height of the body 20 cm at the front and 21 cm at the rear. It is bordered at the top with a 3 cm high golden braided passementerie band woven in a "cul de dé" pattern, and at the bottom with a 2.7 cm high black velvet tape. Black varnished leather crown, diameter 23 cm. Black varnished leather visor, waxed inside, with a golden brass rim, studded and folded over the outer edge, visor width 6 cm. White silk cockade, diameter 9 cm, old but not sewn onto the shako. Front plate made of embossed and gilded brass depicting the Crowned Arms of France surrounded by two palms on a background of a bundle of flags, all set on a shield framed by a beaded rod, an oak branch, and a laurel branch; the center is embossed with "D. P. T. DE LA DORDOGNE" in relief, plate height 14.5 cm, width 10.6 cm. Jugulars composed of a leather chinstrap covered with black velvet and a series of brass scales with scalloped edges (one scale previously replaced). Gilded brass round rosette, diameter 4.1 cm, embossed with a fleur-de-lis on a sanded background surrounded by a raised rod. Black varnished leather interior liner with a band tightening with a lace. 7 cm diameter spherical white wool pompom, originally surmounted by a white flame.
Very good condition, original cockade not attached, velvet of the chinstraps restored.
