OFFICER'S GRENADIER SHAKO OF THE NATIONAL GUARD, model 1830, July Monarchy.
Made of cardboard covered in mole-colored felt, measuring 23.5 cm in height, adorned at the top with a 3 cm wide "lizard" silver braid woven with silver threads, and at the bottom with a 2.6 cm high black varnished leather chinstrap.
Black leather visor.
Tricolor metal cockade, with a diameter of 7 cm.
Front plate made of silver-plated copper, embossed in relief with a Gallic rooster holding a globe in one talon, with a shield-shaped escutcheon decorated on each side with a lion's head; the shield topped with a flaming grenade in a wreath of oak and laurel, with a pair of flags on each side. Plate height 14 cm, width 11 cm.
Chinstraps composed of two leather straps covered in black velvet and diminishing in size, with 14 copper-silver plated scales, scalloped, measuring approximately 3.7 cm wide near the rosace, and around 20 cm long; each chinstrap is attached to the shako by a round rosace stamped with a flaming grenade, with a diameter of 4 cm, made of copper-silver plated metal with a double tab fixed at the back that folds inside the shako.
The movable scaled chinstraps date back to the beginning of the July Monarchy.
Scarlet woolen flame plume, with a 6 cm diameter pompon and a 15 cm high flame.
Black waxed sheepskin interior liner cut into wolf teeth.
