STEEL MARCASSITE COURT SWORD, Kingdom of Great Britain, 18th century.

Steel marcasite frame with a rich polished and burnished "diamond point" style decoration. Guard branch, pommel and cruise representing flowers in polished and blued steel. Spindle in wood entirely filigree with burnished steel wires, twisted and cut in "diamond point" with flat net with small reported gilt brass finials. Finely perforated keyboard with a "diamond point" decoration. Triangular blade 80 cm long, entirely engraved with floral decorations on a gold background, music and military trophies, ancient goddesses, the face of the sun on a radiant background and the motto "À LA VICTOIRE", all on a blued background . Scarlet silk covered wooden scabbard with two openwork steel marcasite fittings, chape engraved on the back with 'PROSSER'S Manufactorey Hyde Street Bloomsbury'. Steel suspension chain finished with carabiners. Perforated steel belt clip.

Sword in very good condition, scabbard in poor condition, incomplete (missing the lower part 34 cm, upper part broken in two), exposed tang with gaps and stains.
