War letters. Valmy, Marengo, Austerlitz, Waterloo…we are many reading the epic of soldiers from the Republic to Napoleon. Innumerable books explain the stories, the memories of famous peoples but we don’t know many things about the common soldier : his letters to parents, to fiancée, to relatives, …the day life of the soldier is badly known.
This book is a new vision with near 400 selected letters from french soldiers around Europe and shown also difference between soldiers from the Republic and from to the Empire. Many pictures showing original documents never published : color drawings, sketches, designs, watercolors, miniature portraits.
