“I had already made the same request at the time of the general inspection, I am renewing it; well convinced that I cannot find a better opportunity to enter into the views of a wise and beneficent government. Cen Michauld, an officer since AN three, was discharged in AN 9 when the General officer to whom he was attached was unemployed, and was reduced at that time, by lack of fortune, to enlist in a regiment. His talents and his conduct soon made him distinguished, and at this moment he is Quartermaster, head of the elite Company. It seems to me that in the eyes of the government this individual is still an officer, and I think he deserves the advancement that I am asking of the 1st Consul.”
Colbert's request is preceded by the services & campaigns of Second Lieutenant Michauld.
In Spain at Cacabelos on January 3, 1809, struck by a bullet in the forehead while charging at the head of the light cavalry of the 6th corps under Ney. Expiring after a quarter of an hour, according to Doctor Robinet (p. 436) he declared “I am still very young, but my death is worthy of a soldier of the Grande Armée”. The name of General Colbert is inscribed on the west side of the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile.
