HELMET OF THE CUIRASSIERS' TRUMPETER, MODEL 1874, THIRD REPUBLIC.
Shell, made in one piece, in embossed nickel-plated steel sheet. Pierced at the top with three suction holes (diameter 1.5 cm). Marked by the manufacturer "A. GODILLOT", sized "58" and dated 1883 "83".
Visor in steel sheet edged with a 7 mm wide brass strip placed on the outer edge; lined underneath with brown waxed leather.
Nape cover identical to the visor, missing the inner lining.
Brass headband embossed in relief with a flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves.
Each chinstrap is composed of a chin cup with 15 copper scales cut alternately in groups of three or two, decreasing in width from the top one, which is 3.5 cm, to the last one, which is only 2 cm.
The right chinstrap is fitted at its end with a small copper plate riveted to which is attached a buckle also in copper. At the end of the left one, there is a similar plate with a copper D attached, adorned with a black varnished calf leather chin guard.
The top scale of each chinstrap is covered with a movable copper rosette, independent of the chinstrap. It is circular in shape (diameter 42 mm) depicting four relief brass stripes.
Brass crest composed of two wings, a mask, and a covering.
Wings adorned with palmettes and a border strip at their upper edge. The lower part forms a scalloped rim adorned with water leaves, attached to the shell by two screws.
A tinplate connects the upper edges of the wings, fixing their spacing.
Mask embossed with a relief head of Medusa. The covering, also embossed, represents the continuation of Medusa's head hair with intertwined snakes (length 9 cm).
Crest ornament composed of an embossed socket of relief water leaves and a lens formed by two embossed shells. Fixed on the front of the crest and supporting a scarlet houppette of tufted hairs, height 4.5 cm.
Scarlet horsehair mane, length 60 cm.
Brass tube-shaped plume holder with a slightly decreasing square section towards the base, H 3.2 cm.
Interior lining composed of a turban and a coif in glossy black sheepskin cut with 7 wolf's teeth.
Period plume made of scarlet rooster feathers, H 18.5 cm, mounted on a whalebone ending in a steel spring, total height 25.5 cm. Dark green cord olive pom-pom.
Good condition, slight oxidation of steel parts, one wolf's tooth missing.
