OFFICER'S BRIDLE BIT, First half of the 18th century. 14812
Model identical to that appearing on the plates illustrating “The cavalry school” of La Guérinière with cannon of the so-called “pigeon-throated” shape. In its upper part, the branch forms a banquet with a heart-shaped opening. At the barrel, a gilded brass boss is riveted on each side. The lower end, or the bottom of the branch, ends with an opening usually called "the gargoyle" (it must help to buckle the rein holders when their rings are broken), in the lower part the branches are connected together by two bars. The underside of the gargoyle is drilled with a hole intended to receive the rein holder reels fitted with their rings. Length of the branches 28.5 cm, width of the mouth 13 cm.
