BELT PLATE FOR REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE TO THE ARMIES, Revolution. 13805
Rectangular cast bronze, H 10.9 cm, width without the curvature 12.5 cm. It depicts a republic on a sandblasted background holding in its hands a bundle of fasces and a spear topped with a Phrygian cap. In the background, a column, two crossed infantry flags, an oak branch, and a laurel branch are depicted. The border consists of a beaded relief molding. The back is complete with its two side loops.
Very good condition, plate retaining all its gilding, slight starting crack at the top.

HISTORICAL:
According to the decree of the National Convention of September 11, 1793, section II, articles 23 and 24 (parliamentary archives (...), volume LXXIII, p. 694): "The body of Representatives of the People to the Armies was created by the First Republic on April 9, 1793. Michel Biard has shown that their role is notably to oversee the supply of the armies, as well as Paris, under this decree of the Convention: "As long as the war lasts, the city of Paris will be supplied in the same manner as the armies of the Republic and the fortresses, but at its own expense."
