PLUME CREST PLATE OF THE NATIONAL GUARD OF THE CITY OF ORLÉANS, CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY, 1789-1792.
Made of embossed brass, bordered by a double smooth projecting molding topped with a palmette. Rich decoration depicting two medallions: one adorned with three fleur-de-lis and the other with the Arms of the city of Orléans. These two medallions are positioned on a smooth coat of arms, separated by a sword pointing upwards. The coat of arms is topped with the royal crown, itself surmounted by a Phrygian cap and a ribbon bearing the motto "LIVE FREE OR DIE." In the background of the coat of arms, the plate is decorated with a bundle of flags, weapons, musical instruments, royal scepter, fasces, cuirass, oak branch and laurel branch, Table of Laws, drum, cannon, cannonballs, and a flaming bomb in each of the lower corners. The edges are folded over themselves on the interior, reinforced by a steel wire forming a loop at the top for attachment to the crest and pierced with two holes in each lower corner for fastening. Height 16 cm, width with the curve 23 cm, and without the curve 22 cm.
