HELMET AND BREATHER TROUP OF THE ROYAL GUARD, model 1816 (first model), Restoration. 27253-11187-A
HELMET
Iron bomb, H of the bomb without turban 11.5 cm, iron visor and neck cover surrounded by a folded brass rod astride the outer edge. Visor lined with green morocco, neck cover lined with black morocco.
Cow turban covered with a black dyed marine sealskin headband, it covers the visor and the neck cover. H of the turban on the sides 8.5 cm.
Crest in gilded brass with stamped decorations: the fins are struck with a large oak branch occupying all the space on a smooth background, the lower border is folded outwards cut into festoons and fixed to the bomb by means of 4 screws (per fin) in brass with conical head (2 screws are missing on each fin); the mask is stamped with an oak leaf and at the bottom the Arms of France on a striated background, with a hook at the base for suspending the chin straps.
Black horsehair chenille cut at the back at the bottom of the bomb (the last 9 centimeters are missing).
Chinstraps, model adopted in 1817 and put into service in 1818, with curb chains fixed on a leather strip (absent), they attach to the hook fixed in the middle of the front.
Round rosettes stamped in relief with a fleur-de-lys with a hook at its base to hold the chin rest, diameter of the rosette 4 cm.
Brass plume holder not of the model.
Interior headdress composed of a brown leather band topped with an ecru canvas (in poor condition).
Very good state of conservation, missing the lower end of the caterpillar, feather holder, rosettes and chains without period guarantee.
BREATHEAST
In steel, composed of a backrest and a plastron. Breastplate lined with 34 brass nails. In the center a copper motif stamped in relief with the Arms of France and Navarre, H 19 cm, width 16.5 cm. Two nails are riveted at chest level to attach the back shoulder pads. Back lined with 28 brass nails, garnished at the top with two leather straps covered with a double brass mesh chain with brass lock originally ending with heart-shaped leather tabs (now missing ).
At the bottom, a black leather belt (leather replaced later) with original brass buckle, it is fixed on the sides by two brass rivets.
Good condition, usual oxidation on the edges.
