INFANTRY OFFICER'S SABER OF THE CHASSEURS DE VINCENNES, model 1838, later renamed CHASSEURS D'ORLÉANS in 1842, Second Empire.
Brass hilt with a side shell guard decorated with oak and laurel branches overlaying a bundle of four flags, guard branches shaped like acanthus leaves decorated with stars. Open branch hook with an eyelet for the passage of the wrist strap, quillon decorated with a star on each side. Pommel with a long tail decorated with oak and laurel leaves. Filigreed horn handle.
Plain blade with a fuller, grooves, and a rounded back edge. Length 76 cm. Engraved on the spine with "Manufacture de Klingenthal."
Steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
