OFFICER SWORD OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD INFANTRY, MODEL 1860, SECOND EMPIRE.
Gilt bronze hilt. Guard decorated with the letter N under an imperial crown set on a radiant background with a sparkling Jupiter's thunderbolt. The hilt features a molded relief plate displaying the Grand Imperial Arms, a quillon decorated with a palmette, and a rear plate bearing the raised inscription "IMPERIAL GUARD" placed on a branch of oak and laurel, which is foldable. The pommel adorned with the imperial eagle with outstretched wings. Ebony grip with gilt brass filigree.
Strong triangular blade, white, engraved at the base "Manufacture Impériale de Chatellerault / m de la garde / modèle 1860".
Length 79.50 cm, base width 2.4 cm.
Leather scabbard with two brass fittings.
Very good state of conservation, the gilt hilt has retained all its gold coating, the blade is perfect, the scabbard without any damage, the two scabbard fittings are in perfect condition but have lost part of their gilding.
