CARABINIER LIEUTENANT'S CAP, model 1845 modifié 185, Second Empire. 4410-1
Quite high in shape, 11.5 cm at the front and 15.5 cm at the back, headband composed of a wide regulatory woven “cul-de-dé” braid adopted in the Imperial Guard from 1858, in silver H 4 cm surmounted by two flat braids indicating the rank of lieutenant. Sky blue cloth headdress with a flat silver braid soutache sewn vertically on each side. Cap edged with a flat silver braid and a Hungarian knot in its center in silver braid, diameter 12 cm. At the front above the headband is sewn a grenade made of threads, cannetilles and silver sequins (H 4.5 cm). Chin strap in black patent leather bordered at the top and bottom with two small silver braids; it is held on the headband by two half-bell buttons in silver metal. Visor in black patent leather, lined underneath with green waxed leather, folded leather band astride the outer edge.
Inner headdress composed of a band of black leather gilded in iron at the top, topped with a gold silk headdress.
