De la Restauration à la République, les régimes vont se succéder entrecoupés de révoltes, en ayant chacun leurs emblèmes particuliers. Portant ce sont tous les drapeaux de l'armée française. Qu'ils soient blancs ou tricolores du Mexique à la Crimée en passant par Alger et Navarin, ils vont témoigner de la présence et du courage français. De ces victoires ou de ces défaites sortiront notre République et le drapeau du 14 juillet 1880 qui est toujours le nôtre.
