These false buttonholes feature a silver thread braid in a V shape with a central rod made of sequins and twisted gimp. The outer border also consists of sequins and twisted gimp thread. Embroidered silver gimp framing molding in the shape of small fleur-de-lis. On the left side of the lapel, there are 4 scarlet silk threads intended to receive decorations (most likely the Cross of Saint Louis and the Order of the Lily).
Scarlet cuffs (H 9 cm). Straight cuff tabs 5.5 cm wide by 15 cm high, characterized by being the color of the royal blue uniform wool for the upper part of 6 cm and the scarlet lining for the lower part of 8.5 cm. Each cuff tab is richly embroidered with 3 buttonholes similar to those on the lapel but reduced to a length of 8.2 cm, also adorned with an identical uniform button as those on the lapel.
Scarlet collar (H 9 cm) bordered at the top with an embroidered design similar to the buttonholes on the lapel and in the center, at the front and on each side, with a buttonhole identical to those on the lapel but without a uniform button and with a length of 11.5 cm.
2 false rear pockets in royal blue wool each embroidered with 3 false buttonholes (similar to those on the lapel) H 5.5 cm, length 11.5 cm. Scarlet serge pocket lining. Beneath each pocket, 3 uniform buttons from the King's Guards model (identical to the buttons on the lapel) measuring 2.5 cm in diameter are sewn. Equally decorated patch.
On each side of the uniform at hip level, 3 identical false buttonholes as those on the lapel are embroidered horizontally, each 4.8 cm high; the upper buttonhole is 14 cm long, the middle buttonhole 11.5 cm, and the bottom buttonhole 10 cm.
Tailed basques with scarlet wool revers bordered with an embroidered braid in the same design as the buttonholes. In each bottom corner, a fleur-de-lis is embroidered directly on the exterior of the coat and, on the interior side, a radiant Sun is embroidered with the face of the Sun in silver applied.
Scarlet shoulder strap loops embroidered with silver thread, gimp, and sequins in twists (1.2 cm wide, length 8 cm). At the same level on the shoulder near the collar, an original small flat button in silver-plated copper without decoration (diameter 1.04 cm) is sewn to fasten the inner shoulder strap; on one of the two shoulders, a second uniform button from the King's Guards model is sewn to secure the aiguillettes.
Inner lining in scarlet serge and beige canvas.
France.
Restoration period.
Good condition, some moth holes, oxidized gimp with wear and tear.
NOTE:
The King's Guards uniform is usually decorated with silver braids and not embroideries like on the uniform presented today, which characterizes it as a higher grade uniform corresponding to an officer of the King's Guards, probably a lieutenant or squadron commander.
A meticulous restoration of this uniform is possible with consolidation and restoration of the embroideries. More information on request.
