ADMIRAL'S UNIFORM, SECOND EMPIRE.
Uniform made of dark blue almost black satin, closed on the chest by a row of nine large 1854 uniform buttons (half-domed, gilded with a matte and burnished finish, stamped and embossed with a background of a bundle of flags, a marine anchor surmounted by the imperial crown with a shield stamped with a star), diameter 21 mm (one button is not of the model).
Collar made of dark blue satin cloth, 38 mm high embroidered with threads, bullion and golden sequins in two rows of oak leaves around 14 mm wide for the upper branch and 12 mm for the other), bordered at the top with a scalloped rod; it is cut in a rounded shape at the front. It is trimmed with soft leather and lined with dark blue almost black velvet.
Sleeves end with a straight cuff 76 mm high, of the same cloth as the tunic and embroidered with threads, bullion and golden sequins in two rows of oak leaves (the upper row is around 29 mm wide and the second around 26 mm), bordered at the top with a scalloped rod.
Shoulder straps in gold thread, bullion, and sequin trimmings (length 85 mm, width 20 mm). Each is topped with two small uniform buttons of 14 mm in diameter.
At the bottom of the back is embroidered a series of oak and laurel branches with two uniform buttons.
At the bottom of each turned-back tail of the basque is sewn a gold embroidered badge on blue cloth, representing a winged staff thunderbolt surmounted by the imperial crown with a naval anchor above, embroidery height 66 mm, width 34 mm.

PAIR OF ADMIRAL'S EPAULETTES, SECOND EMPIRE.
They are embroidered with gold twist fringes and sequins.
The body is embroidered with a design featuring a V-shaped staff braid bordered by a scalloped frame rod on dark blue almost black wool cloth; its badge is decorated with a shield with a scalloped edge, adorned with a gilt-stamped and gilt-decorated marine anchor (height approximately 40 mm, width 23 mm) with three silver stars (diameter 20 mm).
The fringes are made of large matte twists. The outline consists of three turnings: a thick one in dull cord and shiny spun alternately on a cotton core; an inner smaller twisted Milanese mixed with another simple shiny; a third, of the same work, is applied below the thick one, at the fringe's base.
Small uniform button, diameter 13 mm.

ADMIRAL'S BICORNE, SECOND EMPIRE, ONCE BELONGING TO VICE ADMIRAL DOMPIERRE D'HORNOY.
Formal model from the 1852 regulation, in black felt called "flamand" bordered by a wide gold galloon of the type called "general's border," with a scalloped crest edge, woven with a double branch of oak with its acorns (width 74 mm), a curled white ostrich feather is stitched against each of the interior edges, a braid formed of three matte gold twists, they double back around the button and are secured by the same large model gilt uniform button for Admiral, tricolor cockade in goat hair.
Ivory silk hat marked in gold with the manufacturer's name "MR TUDAL SUR LE PORT TOULON," two gold initials "D H," inner leather headband in ochre.

Charles de Dompierre d'Hornoy (De, Charles, Marius, Albert) born in Hornoy on February 24, 1816, died in Paris on March 21, 1901, Counter Admiral on August 13, 1864, Vice Admiral on June 4, 1871, and French politician. He was Minister of the Navy and Colonies under the first government of Albert de Broglie from May 25, 1873, to May 21, 1874. Elected as a deputy of Somme in February 1871.
