COMMANDER'S SHAKO OF THE NATIONAL GUARD MODEL 1848, SECOND REPUBLIC.
Made of cardboard covered with taupe felt (shows signs of wear), height 185 mm, bordered at the top with a 36 mm wide silver braid, and at the bottom with a 33 mm high black velvet band.
Black leather visor.
Tricolor metal cockade, 57 mm in diameter.
Front plate in silver-plated copper embossed with a Gallic rooster standing on a globe and a bundle of flags along with the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. Plate height 120 mm, width 109 mm.
Jugulars composed of two leather chinstraps covered with black velvet and a silver-plated copper plate embossed with a decreasing series of scalloped scales. Each chinstrap is attached to the shako by a round rosette stamped with a flaming grenade, made of silver-plated copper with a double tab fixed at the back that folds inside the shako.
Double lenticular tricolor wool pompon with a brass number 4 cut out in the center.
Black waxed sheepskin inner liner cut in a scalloped pattern.
