COLONEL GRENADIERS DE LA GARDE IMPÉRIALE POLICE CAP, model 1854 with strap, Second Empire. 26864

Dark blue cloth cap body with scarlet wool cord piping. The piping meets on the right side to form a point, the top of which reaches the bottom of the cap.
Two elliptical side flaps in dark blue cloth, bordered on the convex side by a double braid in woven gold passementerie cul de dé, one wide on the outside (width 3 cm), and a second narrower one underlining the first (width 1 cm); these two elliptical pieces are sewn to the body of the cap at the top.
On the front, in the curvilinear angle formed by the recess in the two flaps, a bright pomegranate is sewn, embroidered in silver-gilt thread, cinnamon and sequins (H 4.5 cm, width 2.5 cm).
At the front corner of the bonnet peak, a pompom is attached in gold thread, fringed with large twists.
Inner cap entirely in scarlet waxed basane.
