Appointed official naval painter in 1947.
Initially intended for the navy, his health forced him to give it up. Georges Fouillé then turned to maritime painting,
appointed titular painter of the navy, he embarked on the Richelieu in 1949.
Fouille wanted to combine art with historical research. Georges Fouillé brings a historian's precision to his work.
